Description:

Independently performs and evaluates various laboratory tests on patient specimens providing data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease utilizing the established methods and procedures with minimal supervision. May serve as lead tech in specified areas and assist in training new technical staff and evaluate competency of MLT and phlebotomy staff under the direction of the Laboratory Manager/Technical Supervisor and Laboratory Medical Director. The position is suited to a Generalist, with the ability to rotate through all departments with minimal supervision, guidance and direction by the supervisor and /or Laboratory Medical Director. Frequent contact is made with physicians, nurses, patients and other hospital personnel, laboratory staff and hospital visitors.

Essential Functions

The areas to be covered by this position are the following, Chemistry, special chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, blood bank, coagulation, therapeutic drug monitoring, microbiology, serology, molecular testing, and chain of custody drug screen collections, order entry and phlebotomy. The maintenance of instrumentation, maintain workflow, quality control and participation in PI projects, perform and review calibrations and quality control as well as evaluation of new test systems to ensure that all standards are consistently observed as required by the carious regulatory agencies. Staff supervision of MLT and phlebotomy staff. Patient care and safety should always be the forefront of the technologist's concerns.

Qualifications:

Job Requirements

Minimum Education
Bachelors Degree in Medial Technology or Related field

Required Skills
Basic phlebotomy skills are necessary. Ability to pay attention to detail, ability to multi-task, willingness to update Medical Technologist skills.

Required Skills
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 90 days from the date of hire.

Required Skills
Licenses: Medical Technology, State of Tennessee Licensure

Minimum Work Experience
Experience in Acute Care or Hospital Laboratory preferred.
