The Surgical Services LPN shall assist other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the preoperative, intra-operative and postoperative period. The Surgical Services LPN demonstrates professional development and clinical competency & is able to address healthcare needs for the patients, families and other health care providers; manages patient care assignments as well as other organizational tasks related to patient and unit operations; and applies knowledge of growth and development in patient interactions. Is familiar with preparation and handling of surgical instrumentation, surgical equipment and assisting the surgeon within the limits of their scope of practice & training during the surgical procedure. The Surgical Services LPN is under the direction and supervision of the perioperative RN & surgeon.  Administers care and use of equipment applicable to the age and needs of the patient population served (neonate through geriatric).


Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nurse Program, with current licensure in the State of Kentucky. One to two years clinical experience is preferred. CPR certification required. One year of operating room experience is preferred along with knowledge of specific procedures or specialties. The incumbent must be capable of prioritizing, planning and problem solving due to changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures and must possess ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations.  The incumbent must also possess excellent professional communication skills in dealing with patients/families, medical staff, peers and ancillary staff.  The incumbent must provide attention to detail and accuracy; he or she is responsible for maintaining confidentiality of material and information. ACLS and PALS certification is recommended.
