Physical Therapy Assistant PRN
Mayfield, Kentucky
Under direct supervision of the Physical Therapist, provides direct patient care to individuals with physical disabilities and/or functional limitations in the outpatient and inpatient units. Assists patients in exercises and use of wheelchairs and other devices, and documents patient progress. Educates patients and families in appropriate physical therapy methods.
- Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical, or employment status of patients/families at JPMC.
- Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.
- Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action. Must participate in safety instructional programs.
- Acts at all times under the direction and supervision of a Kentucky Licensed Physical Therapist providing care based upon a total assessment, written evaluation and plan of care formulated by a Physical Therapist licensed in the State of Kentucky.
- Provides treatment and monitors the patient’s response to rehabilitation in compliance with the hospital and physical therapy department policies and procedures.
- Supports the physical therapy department and hospital, and at all times strive to be an integral and effective member of the team, including active participation in the Physical Therapy dept PI plan and the hospital’s commitment to continuous quality improvement. Assist with data collection, makes suggestions for improvement, documents correctly.
- Reviews and has complete knowledge of all aspects of the evaluation and plan of care and competently implements the established plan of treatment/care.
- Observes and diligently strives towards achieving the patient’s short and long term goals.
- Communicates effectively and timely with the Physical Therapist on all aspects of patient care.
- Evaluates patient’s response and progress to prescribed treatments and communicates with the Physical Therapist.
- Identifies further patient rehabilitation potential if treatment is to continue.
- Encourages participation in and educates the patient and family on treatments, purpose and goals.
- Communicates with the physician and other healthcare team members on the patient’s progress and outcome from the program.
- Performs only physical therapy functions permitted by the practice act and does not exceed those responsibilities. Assumes accountability and responsibility for assigned comprehensive patient care.
- Demonstrate ability to handle problem areas and consults with peers as needed.
- Delegates appropriate responsibilities to Physical Therapy Technicians with reviews and monitoring for completeness and accuracy.
- Assists in clinical supervision and teaching of students, volunteers and observers.
- Complies and adheres to established physical therapy guidelines, protocols and duties.
- Establishes priorities based on available space, time, staffing and resources.
- Performs safety, environmental and/or infection control methods.
- Maintain CPR Certification.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Associates of Science Degree in physical therapy required. Must be a graduate form an accredited Physical Therapy Program and be Kentucky State Licensed/Certified/Registered as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Previous experience preferred. Must be CPR/BLS Certified. Required skills include; organizational, customer relations, math, grammar/spelling, the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, the ability to follow written and oral direction, and computer training.
