This is a Department of Nursing Service position that provides delivery of patient care with a smooth transition from academic nurse to professional Registered Nurse (RN). Must demonstrate the clinical ability to work as Primary RN on the Unit to which assigned.
d. Must be able to coordinate the delivery of patient care on the Unit; completes required documentation; participates inpatient/family teaching and discharge planning, effectively utilizing the Nursing Process.
Residency program duration is 12 months, first 90 days are education and then transfer to the unit

Will adhere to the standards of behavior, and confidentiality-HIPAA guidelines at all times.Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN.Appropriately documents all patient care given. Documentation must always be verified by the RN upon completion.Will develop nursing knowledge, the ability to follow guidelines, communication and interpersonal skills, time management and bedside manner.Monitors, records and communicate patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient and family.

Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, eating, and ambulation, monitoring vital signs, monitoring blood glucose levels, recording accurate intake and output on the unit to which assignedPerforms plan of care intervention, including vital signs, specimen collection, ambulation, basic patient care activities as delegated by an RN

Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.May perform nursing skills in which they were deemed competent by the nursing preceptor but always under the direct supervision of an RN.Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/ psychosocial support needs.Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.Works to develop the basic leadership skills required of a Registered Nurse while also learning to lead the team on the unit.Delivers quality patient care while completing assignments in compliance with the Nursing Process, the Arizona Practice Act, The Joint Commission-TJC, and State Regulations.Maintains compliance with organizational policies, as well as established practices, protocols, procedures of the position, department and applicable professional standards.

Minimum Education

Associates Degree from an accredited nursing program and waiting to take and pass the AZ State Board of Nursing exam □ Preferred X RequiredX Must have completed nursing clinicals and was in good standing in their Nursing Program.X Able to obtain AZ RN Nursing License or Compact State within 90 days of hire.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire(If employee already has ACLS, BLS is not required)X Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association X Required within 6 months of hireX Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)- American Heart Association X if required to work the unit they are assigned to. Within 6 months of hireX APEX Innovations EKG course within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter X Required

X Competencies: as validated by nurse preceptorX Must possess basic computer skillsX Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, and medical staff
