RN Med Surg PRN
Ottumwa, Iowa
The Registered Nurse works under the supervision of the Director and is responsible for providing nursing care for acutely ill patients. the RN performs assigned procedures that are within the scope of practice as set forth by the Iowa State Board of Nursing.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
- Attending 100% of all mandatory in-services.
- Completing all required training and continuing education.
- Completing all competency requirements.
- Completing physical and psychosocial assessments of assigned patients.
- Creating/updating/individualizing nursing care plans for assigned patients in collaboration with the patient, and their significant others utilizing an interdisciplinary team approach.
- Implementing and contributing to the Medical Plan of Care.
- Accurately transcribing and implementing physician orders.
- Documenting patients care and responses to care.
- Preparing and administering medications using the 10 rights:
- Right Patient

- Right Time
- Right Documentation
- Right Assessment
- Right to Education
- Right Evaluation
- Right to Refuse
- Demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to changes in nursing practice.
- Responding in a positive manner to constructive criticism.
- Exercising safe judgment in decision making and demonstrating tact and understanding when dealing with patients, team members, members of other disciplines, and the public, recognizing legal responsibilities and functioning within limitations specified by law.
- Actively participating in the development and accomplishment of unit goals.
- Assisting in the growth and development of team members.
- Maintaining flexibility with schedule to assure department coverage of staffing.
- Identifying potential and ongoing department and organizational wide quality improvement projects, and participating in processes designed to support change.
- Conveying risk and safety concerns to Director/Manager, Nursing Supervisor, or Administration in a timely manner.
- Completing variance reports regarding unexpected patient, and/or family, or employee incidents in a timely manner.
- Demonstrating fulfillment of the standards of behavior.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate age appropriate nursing care per ORCH policy/procedure and by meeting regulatory expectations from the Joint Commission and Center for Medicare/Medicaid.
EDUCATION
- Graduate of an accredited program of Registered Nursing.
EXPERIENCE
- Prefer prior experience in Medical/Surgical nursing, but not required.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE
- Current Iowa Registered Nurse License
- Current BCLS verification
- Medical-Surgical Certification preferred but not required
