Athletic Trainer Extern

• Salary Range $38K-$55K based on YOE
• Non-Exempt Hourly
• Eligible for Shift Differential

The Athletic Trainer Extern at RRHS recognizes, manages, and rehabilitates injuries to student athletes within Rutherford County Schools, under the direction of the Athletic Trainer Coordinator, and in accordance with state athletic trainers licensing act. The athletic trainer provides techniques for prevention of injuries and instincts/trains on safe exercise techniques for student athletes. The role reports to the Director of Rehab, and works closely with the area schools and Athletic Directors to create a strong partnership in support of student athletes’ overall health and wellbeing.

Essential Functions:

• Prepares athletes for practice or competition.
• Evaluates and manages injuries and determines whether a referral is necessary.
• Maintains a medical file on each athlete and acts as a liaison between the physician and the athlete.
• Implements treatment and rehabilitation programs under the supervision of a physician.
• Develops conditioning programs for injured and healthy athletes.
• Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Required Skills: 

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping. Requires hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity to allow for suture or staple removal. Requires normal hearing and eyesight to allow for patient interaction and transfer of patient information from the patient to pen chart. Need to have the ability to handle high amounts of stress.

Qualifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Must be NATA BOC certified and possess or be in the process of acquiring licensure, certification, or registration for the state of NC.

Minimum Work Experience:

• Prefer 1-2 years experience. Will train new graduates.

Minimum Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
