Summary: 

Performs nuclear medicine procedures and produces images for interpretation by authorized users. Procedures will be performed in accordance with North Carolina Radioactive Materials Regulations, CCH Radioactive Materials License, department protocols and established standards of practice. Prepares, administers, and documents activities related to radioactive materials and helps maintain the security of the nuclear medicine department. Performs and maintains documentation for all required quality control. Assesses and monitors patients, and provides appropriate patient care.

 

Essential Functions:

1. Verbalizes and/or demonstrates knowledge of clinical information and practices essential to assuring provision of age-specific care to all age groups.
2. Verifies patient identification, confirms physician orders, obtains patient history / forms, assesses patient condition, explains procedures, provides patient education, and addresses patient concerns prior to performing exams.
3. Assures proper completion of all exams requested including documentation, charging, and proper labeling of images.
4. Performs a variety of nuclear medicine procedures that requires the use of critical thinking skills along with proper positioning skills, protocol, and techniques to obtain a diagnostic quality image to meet authorized user specifications. 5. Identifies normal anatomy and/or unusual findings.
6. Demonstrates proficiency in the operation and proper handling of all diagnostic equipment. Maintains all equipment and accessories in efficient operating order; performs equipment QC, ensures preventative maintenance is performed as required, contacts service for repairs when necessary.
7. Administers isotope dosage accurately following established departmental protocols, accurately records dosage administered.
8. Prepares and assists radiologists/physicians with procedures as required. Ensures that Standard Precautions and sterile techniques are utilized.
9. Maintains communication and cooperation with radiologist and other ancillary departments regarding changes in protocol, scheduling of procedures, exams performed and patient flow.
10. Demonstrates the ability to operate all computer systems utilized within the department..
11. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas, ensures rooms are stocked, and prepares rooms prior to patient entrance.
12. Performs clerical duties, provides clinical supervision for students and assists in patient transport as needed.
13. Practices radiation safety for patient, self and others.
14. Participates in departmental performance improvement activities. May be assigned specific quality assurance / quality control duties.
15. Rotates within the department and assists where needed. Performs exams in other modalities within scope of practice. Works various shifts and participates in call rotation as required for the proper functioning of the department.


Required Education:
Associate’s degree, preferred 
Training commensurate with ARRT NM or NMTCB Certification and Advanced Modality Training in Nuclear Medicine, Required


Required License:
None


Required Certification:
ARRT Certification in Radiography – Preferred
ARRT Certification in Nuclear Medicine and/or NMTCB certification – Required
American Heart Association BLS - Required
