POSITION SUMMARY: 
Performs receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patient admissions.

Essential Functions:

Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.

Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.

Meets with patients or patient's caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation.  Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.

Communicates with admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement.

Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary.  Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up.


QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualifications are the minimum qualifications in order to adequately perform this job.  However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.

Education: High school diploma or GED required.  Associate's degree in a business related field preferred.  Medical terminology training is desired. 

Experience: Experience in office work and public relations required.  Experience in hospital or health setting preferred.

Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Eye and hand coordination, manual dexterity for computer skills and visual acuity and hearing corrected to normal required.  Extended periods of sitting required with some walking, stooping and bending.  Able to lift up to 20 lbs and reach above shoulder height.
