Provides direct assistance to the surgeon(s) during surgical procedures.
Reports to: Team Leader/Clinical Manager/Director of Surgical Services
FLSA: Non-exempt
Education: School Diploma or equivalent Required; Graduate of a Program in Discipline Preferred Graduate of a Surgical Technology program and/ or current surgical technologist certification.
Licenses: None Listed
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) 
Minimum Work Experience
Prefer at least one year experience within an acute care facility.
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Essential Functions?
Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
Maintains integrity of sterile field.
Passes instruments etc. to surgeon during procedure.
On-call required.
Scrubs, gowns and gloves and assists the surgeons with gowning and gloving.
Prepares sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and solutions needed for the procedure.
Performs specific counts with circulator prior to the operations, during the procedure and before incision is closed.
