An Activities Therapy Coordinator who excels in this role:
The Activity Therapy Coordinator serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide evidence-based activity services to patients hospitalized for treatment of substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric or emotional disorders. The Coordinator plans, organizes and directs medically approved activity programs including such activities as holidays and special events, social activities, relaxation techniques, music-based interventions, leisure educational games, and expressive arts to assist patients to develop interpersonal relationships, increase motivation, to socialize effectively, and to develop confidence needed to participate in group activities. The Coordinator regulates content of the programs in accordance with patients' capabilities, needs, interests, and treatment plan. The Coordinator is the liaison of the Activity Therapy department to Clinical Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Apply appropriate therapeutic theory, standards, and clinical judgment to all treatment decisions and interventions.
- Assess patient needs holistically, considering cultural, religious, developmental, and physical factors that impact treatment and group participation.
- Document patient responses to therapeutic interventions accurately in daily or weekly progress updates.
- Complete all assigned assessments within required timeframes and help balance assessment workload among therapists.
- Develop initial and ongoing treatment programs in alignment with physician or licensed practitioner orders.
- Create individualized plans of care with measurable goals, objectives, and interventions tailored to each patient.
- Provide therapeutic activities and interventions according to the treatment plan while engaging patients to maximize outcomes.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the treatment team and notify providers when patients do not respond to interventions.
- Support effective patient programming by understanding developmental stages and adapting activities accordingly.
- Deliver appropriate therapeutic activities that align with treatment goals and offer diverse and meaningful stimuli.
- Maintain a high‑quality therapeutic program by providing clear direction, education, and communication of expectations.
- Reassess and modify treatment goals as needed based on significant changes in patient condition or length of stay.
- Provide input to treatment teams regarding activity therapy goals, interventions, and updates.
- Offer guidance, coaching, and workflow coordination to other Activity Therapists as directed by the DCS.
- Plan, coordinate, and maintain programming--including supplies, schedules, special events, and budgeting--to ensure consistent, patient‑centered therapeutic services.

What we're looking for
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, or related field from an accredited school required.
- Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS), Music Therapy (MT-BC), or Art Therapy (ATR, ATR-BC, ATR-P, LPAT) certification required per state regulations.
- One year experience in activity therapy in a psychiatric facility required.
- CPR certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
- De-escalation certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
