How You'll Contribute:

The Central Sterile Technician, Noncertified collects, decontaminates, stores and distributes all reusable supplies and patient care equipment in the hospital.  In the execution of job duties, it is the universal expectation that all tasks are performed with a patient centered focus, while also seeking opportunities to continually improve core processes. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need, which may include but is not limited to: holidays, extended shifts, night and/or weekend shifts, standby and/or on-call. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides inspection, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instruments and other patient care equipment in accordance with processing guidelines, AAMI, AORN, TJC, and OSHA requirements.
  • Operates departmental equipment daily according to manufacturer instructions with emphasis on safety.
  • Provides customer service to all departments with a focus on the patient need.
  • Processes and documents all sterile supplies and equipment daily using chemical, biological and mechanical indicators to verify sterility in accordance with manufacturer instructions and hospital policy.
  • Monitors and performs antimicrobial and disinfection solutions testing according to manufacturer instructions and documentation daily.


Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Patient Populations Served: Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult.
  • Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.
  • Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present for all employees.
  • Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
