Position Summary
The Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) provides basic patient care under the direct supervision of licensed nursing staff. CNAs assist patients with activities of daily living, ensure a safe and clean environment, and support the healthcare team in delivering high-quality patient care. At Southern Tennessee Regional Health System - Winchester, our CNAs play a vital role in the Med Surg Department. About the Units
Med Surg Unit
Average Census / Patient Ratio: ~7 Telemetry patients per day
- 6 shifts with different preceptors; strong support provided
- Basic Arrhythmia Class
RQI-BLS (required for all staff; PRN may complete via RQI or AHA independently)
Essential Functions
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility.
- Measure and record vital signs, intake and output, and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
- Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and families.
- Maintain patient safety by following infection control, fall prevention, and hospital policies.
- Assist with patient transport, turning, positioning, and ambulation.
- Answer call lights and promptly respond to patient requests.
- Keep rooms clean, stocked, and orderly; change bed linens as needed.
- Document care is provided accurately and in a timely manner.
- Support RNs and LPNs with delegated clinical tasks within scope of practice.
Requirements
Med Surg
- BLS
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current certification as a Nursing Aide (CNA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (or must obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Previous hospital or long-term care experience preferred but not required.

Working Conditions
- Frequent standing, walking, and lifting to 50 lbs.
