Job Summary:
A Desk Clerk performs a range of clerical duties related to the support of operations of the unit including updating and organizing information on the unit; coordinating work within the unit and with other units and departments; reporting relevant information to the supervisor; and responding to inquiries and requests from patients, visitors and caregivers. Answers calls lights, transports patients and assists with ambulation of patients. FLSA: Non-exempt
How you'll contribute:
- Facilitates communications among caregivers, patients and visitors to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
- Performs all clerical/computer functions to support patient care delivery.
- Coordinates daily patient flow activities. Stocks unit with office and medical supplies and prepares requisitions to maintain inventory levels.
- Answers the telephone in a professional manner and directs calls or takes messages.
- Faxes and photocopies information as requested by staff. Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
- Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
- Executes clerical portion of physician's orders by performing duties such as calling for appointments, consultations and making requests for ancillary services.
- Attends in-services as appropriate and scheduled.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
- Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Assists nursing with ambulation and toileting of patients.
- Perform other duties as assigned

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
