Summary:
- Organizes, directs, and supervises the functions of clinical and/or procedural units, within the Emergency Department. This includes policy and procedures are followed; safe staffing levels are maintained; supplies and equipment are at sufficient levels; and efficient patient throughput is managed.
- Develops, implements, and manages the department budget.
- Engages in ongoing quality and performance improvement, invests in lifelong learning for staff professional development and assures employees complete required annual competencies.
- Maintains own professional growth and development in nursing leadership and required licensure.
- Communicates important information to the CNO and other Administrative Team members as needed. As such, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following activities: Staff development, evidence based clinical practice; personnel resource/productivity management; fiscal management; patient quality, safety and performance improvement; and regulatory compliance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Education Required Education: Bachelor's degree (BSN) is required Master's degree (MSN, MHA, etc.) is preferred
- Required Licenses [North Carolina, United States] Registered Nurse Required License: Registered Nurse in North Carolina or Compact state is required
- Required Certification: BLS is required within 30 days of hire ACLS is required within 30 days of hire PALS is required within 30 days of hire
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
1. Develops, implements and manages hospital/nursing policies, procedures and standards of care.
2. Monitors the efficiency and fiscal parameters of daily operations in the unit assigned.
3. Evaluates patient care needs to ascertain condition of patients, evaluate staffing needs and provide support to caregivers.
4. Initiates and supports innovations in nursing care.
5. Administers the effective distribution and utilization of personnel employed during the respective shift. Proactively balances the staff schedule to meet safe patient care needs.
6. Coordinates and evaluates services rendered by staff during the respective shift on an ongoing basis.
7. Informs the Nurse Executive, his/her representative and/or the Administrator on Call regarding circumstances or situations which have or may have serious organizational impact.
8. Actively engaged with committees and task forces as needed.
9. Collaborates in the planning and providing of in-service education programs based on identified staff needs and practice evidence.
10. Participates in interdisciplinary team rounds.
11. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
12. Demonstrates strong, accurate decision making skills.
13. Evaluates and documents performance of employees.
14. Assists employees with professional growth and development.
15. Actively engages in patient safety, quality and performance improvement activities.
16. Monitors unit environment and clinical practice for regulatory compliance.
17. Collaborates in a team based care environment with all providers, clinicians, support staff and administrators.
