How you'll contribute

An Emergency Service Technician,  who excels in this role: 

Emergency Services Technician performs administrative/clerical duties in support of an assigned area. Employee is also required to perform telemetry monitoring.

Essential Functions

The Emergency Service Technician, under the supervision of the Emergency Room Director performs administrative/clerical duties in support of an assigned area. Employee is also required to perform telemetry monitoring.

  • Greets patients and visitors. 

  • Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls. 

  • Calls codes, pages, and overhead announcements as requested.

  • Enters nursing requests subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary

  • Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.

  • Assembles and maintains patient records and charts.

  • Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies.

  • Assists RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.

  • Perform continual surveillance of multiple monitors.

  • Identifies significant arrhythmias and/or signs of patient distress and intervenes appropriately. 

  • Identifies and corrects for artifacts.

  • Reports abnormal assessment and telemetry findings or changes in patient physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.

  • Tests equipment for proper working order. Reports equipment problems to supervisor.

  • Other tasks that may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Successful completion of nurse aide training program required with current State of Michigan Nursing Assistant certification required at hire or within 4 months of hire OR Graduate of Nursing School and Current Michigan LPN License required, or successful completion of Medical Assistant program required with current CMA certification required.

 

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire.

  • License: Certified Nursing Aide license is preferred.

  • Minimum Work Experience
    One (1) year of experience preferred.

UP Health System - Portage has been serving Michigan's Western Upper Peninsula since 1896. It supports a multi-specialty medical community with over 40 physicians and more than a dozen allied health professionals. The main campus features a 36-bed hospital, accredited as a chest pain center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC). UP Health System - Portage was the first in the state to achieve Level III ACC (American College of Cardiology) verification as a trauma center.

Comprehensive services include Physician staffed Emergency Services available 24/7, designated Hospitalist physicians for Inpatient Hospital stays, Family Birthing Services, an Express Care walk-in clinic, Full Laboratory Services, advanced imaging technology including 64 slice CT scanner, large bore MRI, Nuclear Imaging, Women's Imaging services including 3D mammography, Outpatient Rehabilitation, and Inpatient Swing Bed care, Sleep Center/ Diagnostics, Occupational Medicine, ENT, Orthopedics, Family Medicine, Pain Medicine, Pediatrics, Women's Health. Surgical Services include General, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Plastics/Hand, GYN, ENT, Urology, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology, Dental, Vascular, and Pain.
