Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic II performs a variety of semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, alteration, and repair tasks on hospital equipment, machinery, and facilities. This position supports facility operations, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and helps maintain the hospital environment to support patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

License

Current valid state driver's license required.

Certifications

Current Maintenance Mechanics who receive certification and/or additional training in an area of specified need, including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and boiler systems, may be moved to the Maintenance Mechanic II classification. A single certification in any hospital-specified area qualifies for the job classification upgrade.

Minimum Work Experience

Prefer two (2) years of maintenance experience.

  • Business mathematical skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of maintenance procedures and safe equipment operation.

 

Essential Functions

  • Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Assists the Maintenance Director with Life Safety Code and Environment of Care requirements.
  • Participates in facility management on-call rotation.
  • Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and other lighting components as required.
  • Performs minor maintenance on hospital beds, carts, and other hospital equipment.
  • Inspects equipment and facilities for proper operation and working condition. Determines type and extent of equipment malfunctions and repairs or replaces parts as necessary.
  • Makes service calls on complaints, performs repairs when possible, and ensures all repairs are completed.
  • Attends to gas-fired steam boilers, hot water boilers, and heaters, and reports discrepancies to the maintenance superintendent.
  • Services and repairs heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment including fans, motors, radiators, thermostats, dampers, and regulating controls. Replaces filters and fluids as needed.
  • Performs general maintenance, alterations, and repairs to machinery, equipment, and facilities according to procedures, diagrams, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Makes building repairs including replacing broken glass, repairing drywall, painting, patching concrete, and welding, brazing, or soldering building components or equipment.
  • Uses various power tools including circular saws, miter saws, table saws, and other equipment needed to complete tasks.
  • Assists with snow removal and maintains lawn and snow removal equipment.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees and staff development activities within the department.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Supports the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuous improvement and participates in professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.

 

Non-Essential Functions

Other duties as assigned that support the mission and operations of the hospital.
