Qualifications and requirements: The Cardiovascular Medical Assistant supports providers and patients in a busy cardiology clinic by ensuring efficient patient flow, accurate clinical documentation, and excellent customer service. This role focuses on rooming patients, preparing charts, obtaining vital signs, and managing incoming phone calls while maintaining a compassionate, patient-centered environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Room patients promptly and prepare them for their visit
- Obtain and accurately document vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and oxygen saturation
- Review and update patient histories, medications, allergies, and reason for visit
- Prepare charts before appointments to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Assist providers during clinic visits as needed
Chart Preparation & Documentation
- Perform pre-visit chart prep, including reviewing referrals, prior notes, test results, and imaging
- Ensure required forms, consents, and documentation are available and completed
- Enter clinical information accurately into the electronic health record (EHR)
Communication & Front-Line Support
- Answering incoming phone calls in a professional and courteous manner
- Route calls appropriately, take messages, and follow up as directed
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding basic questions, directions, and clinic processes
Clinic Operations
- Maintain clean, stocked, and organized exam rooms
- Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines at all times
- Support overall clinic workflow and teamwork to ensure timely patient care
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical Assistant certification or completion of an MA program (or equivalent experience)
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to accurately obtain and document vital signs
- Strong communication and customer service skills
Preferred
- Experience in cardiology or a specialty clinic
- Experience using an electronic health record (EHR)
- Current BLS certification
