How you'll contribute
A Medical Office Assistant who excels in this role:
- Assists with exams and cultures, point of care testing, minor procedures and other office procedures within scope of practice.
- Gives IMs, sub q, and oral medications as ordered.
- Handles patient telephone inquiries, EPIC patient advice requests, provides results to patients and CRMs.
- Assists physician and mid-level provider in completing prescription refills electronically.
- Obtains medication prior authorization.
- Preps daily charts.
- Transcribes lab and other medical data to charts.
- Competently documents visits and notes in EPIC including vitals, reconciling medication lists, flow sheets, as well as injections, treatments, etc.
- Record fridge/freezer temperature logs within compliance requirements.
- Completes inventory on medical supplies/vaccines.
- Maintains laboratory quality controls.
- Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Greets patients, families and patrons as they arrive to the clinic.
- Obtains and verifies all insurance, demographic and financial information with each registration. Updates the information as needed. Obtains copies of insurance cards for the EMR
- Monitors for and obtains referrals for patients. Instructs patients of requirement of referral prior to being seen on their appointment date.
- Obtains and prepares all patient charts for the physician practice.
- Assists in maintaining patient flow during the patient's visit.
- Schedules appointments via computerized system for physician practices.
- Accepts patient payments for bills, copays, etc. and documents accordingly with receipt given to the patient.
- Schedules surgeries, testing, and hospitalizations, works with insurance companies in pre-certification process, and obtains authorizations for diagnostic tests and referrals.
- Posts payment in EPIC accordingly, prepares audit journal and balances daily receipts.

What we're looking for
Applicants should have:
- Medical Office experience preferred.
- Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Preferred: Graduate of a Medical Office Assistant Program or appropriate on the job training in a medical office or hospital setting.
- Certifications: CPR or acquired within 2 months of hire; Preferred: Medical Office Assistant Certification.
- Experience: Experience in a medical setting. Individual must have strong clinical skills, be proficient with medical terminology. Excellent typing/computer skills.
- Essential Functions Assists medical staff in carrying out plans for care of patients.
