Medical Technologist Position Summary
Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring disease states. Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services.
Essential Functions
- Follows standardized procedures and prepares patient samples for testing.
- Collects and analyzes bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities, including blood samples for transfusions.
- Operates laboratory equipment safely and effectively.
- Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits; reports and documents findings according to organizational standards.
- Performs automated testing using computerized instruments and equipment.
- Conducts Quality Assurance to ensure accuracy and reliability of equipment and results.
- Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.
Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present.
Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting, computer/data entry, and equipment handling; occasional standing, walking, and light lifting. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Science preferred.
License: /Certifications: Medical Technologist licensure through ASCP or AMT preferred (licensure must reflect education requirements).
