We are responsible for 24 hours observation, interpretation, and documentation for inpatient adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients on the cardiac monitored nursing units (except 6A-ICU, 6R[1]ICU, RICN, Obstetrics).

How you'll contribute

A Monitor Technician who excels in this role:

  • Observes the cardiac rhythms of acute inpatient monitored patients via Central Monitoring Station. 
  • Interprets rhythm strips and sends the strips to the patient's chart twice daily. 
  • Call the nursing staff on their Spectralink telephone to report irregularities in rhythms. 
  • Call the nursing staff on the emergency telephone to report life-threatening rhythms, upon the request of the nursing staff, the rhythm strip can be faxed to the nurse for quick review. 
  • Performs the following: 
    • Obtains information from the nursing staff that properly identifies the patient, confirms and reads back the information to the nursing staff. 
      • a. Patient's name 
      • b. Patient's diagnosis 
      • c. Room number 
      • d. CSN number (Contact Serial Number) 
      • e. Pacemaker (yes or no) 
    • Enters patient information into the system and checks alarms. 
    • Identifies proper method to place monitor leads on patients, and troubleshoots with nursing staff to help correct lead placement issues. 
    • Observes the telemetry monitors for early detection of dysrhythmia. Identifies, interprets and send the documented rhythm reports, to the patient's chart and fax to the appropriate nursing unit if requested. 
    • Maintains open lines of communication with the RN's regarding patient rhythm status. 
    • Validates alarms as they occur: Detects and reports irregularities to the designated nursing staff via their Spectralink telephones. 
    • Reports an occurrence of a life-threatening dysrhythmia immediately to a RN on the nursing unit, via the emergency telephone. 
    • Assists restocking of monitoring supplies. 
    • Provides routine maintenance, and troubleshoots equipment problems. 
    • Provides oncoming shift a precise and accurate telemetry summary. 
    • Maintains confidentiality on all patient, hospital and employee related information. 
    • Commits to the Code of Conduct. 
    • Actively participates in Patient Satisfaction Initiatives. 
    • Attends and participates as a minimum requirement of 6 staff meetings annually. 
    • Participates in Performance Improvement unit-based activities and hospital-based activities under the direction of the Manager/Supervisor. 
    • Completes annual competency on the cardiac monitoring systems. 
    • Annual competency for dysrhythmia interpretation. 
    • Abides by department scheduling, PTO, and vacation policy.

What we're looking for 
Applicants should be high graduates or equivalent. Additional requirements include:

  • One year experience in healthcare setting.
  • Completion of Basic Dysrhythmia Course or successful completion within 60 days of hire.
