How you'll contribute:
An OB Technician who excels in this role:
Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. Provides care to obstetrical patients by functioning as a member of the surgical team performing scrub duties. Provides support to the unit by performing clerical, stocking, and transporting services when not functioning as member of surgical team. Responsible for patient registration. Answers call lights, telephones, and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
- Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies.
Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients. - Provides equipment and supplies based on patient needs as well as anticipates needs of surgeon; passes instruments to physician during surgery.
- Practices aseptic technique; follows correct procedure for scrubbing prior to case.
- Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
- Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
- Performs patient registrations; verifies patient graphics and insurance information.
- Enters patient, departmental and supply charges in computer system on all L&D patients prior to discharge as documented on Charge Sheets by the RN.
- Provides clerical/secretarial support to department, i.e., makes up/assembles charts, ensures Physician order forms, progress notes and other forms are on charts.
- Places patient labels as needed, breaks down discharge charts, sorts and files records, and maintains function of fax machine, printers, and copier.
- Maintains established PAR levels and ensures appropriate supply and linen PAR levels are in OR suites and LDRs.
- Notifies manager of low stock on special order items.
- Checks supplies for outdated items and removes from stock.
- Actively participates in committees to improve patient care.
What we're looking for:
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Operating room experience required for position.
- Graduate of a Program in Surgical Technology preferred
- Medical Assistant and Registered Surgical Technician OR Licensed Surgical Technologist required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association (AHA) required
