How you'll contribute
A Patient Access Coordinator who excels in this role:
Supports daily Patient Access operations while performing Registration Clerk duties
Fosters positive working relationships and demonstrates flexibility to meet changing demands
Collects and accurately enters demographic, billing, and clinical information in a timely manner
Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational materials to patients and families
Verifies insurance benefits and obtains required precertifications and authorizations
Determines and collects patient payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors as needed
Completes IMM and MSP forms in a timely and compliant manner
Maintains lobby and registration wait times under 10 minutes
Ensures Emergency Room wait times remain under 30 minutes from MSE
Verifies insurance and runs estimators for pre-registration accounts
Supports lobby operations, including answering multi-line phones and directing calls appropriately
Contacts insurance companies to verify benefits and obtain authorizations
Calculates patient financial responsibility for services rendered
Reviews patient insurance status and ensures compliance with mandated guidelines
Meets with patients or caregivers before or after admission to gather required information and documentation
Explains processes and addresses patient questions and concerns
Maintains daily departmental collection totals
Orders department supplies
Assists with daily cash deposits
Reviews and corrects assigned departmental reports daily
Posts patient discounts and account adjustments
Provides ongoing education to registration staff regarding role-related updates
Coordinates department meetings and gatherings inside and outside the facility
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Patient Access Supervisor or PFSD
Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
What we're looking for
Applicants should have obtained a High School Diploma or equivalent. Additional requirements include:
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Schedule: This position is based in upfront admitting and will float to the Emergency Department as needed. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, with one on-call weekend per month.
