How You'll Contribute
A Quality Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring high standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, and continuous performance improvement. This position supports the hospital's Quality Management department, focusing on data-driven initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes, reduce risks, and meet accreditation and federal requirements (e.g., CMS, The Joint Commission).
Responsibilities and Duties
- Coordinates and supports quality improvement initiatives, including planning, implementing, and monitoring programs such as Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI).
- Collects, abstracts, analyzes, and reports data on quality measures (e.g., core measures, patient safety indicators, hospital-acquired conditions, readmissions, and other CMS-mandated metrics).
- Monitors compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and internal policies; prepares documentation for audits, surveys, and reporting.
- Identifies trends, areas for improvement, and potential risks in patient care processes through data review, chart audits, and performance tracking.
- Collaborates with clinical staff, physicians, department leaders, and administration to develop and implement process improvements, corrective action plans, and education/training on quality topics.
- Facilitates committees or teams related to quality, patient safety, infection control, or performance improvement.
- Assists with risk management, patient safety programs, safety event reporting, patient grievances, and efforts to reduce medical errors or adverse events.
- Prepares reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership, medical staff, and regulatory bodies.
- Serves as a resource for quality-related questions and supports survey readiness (e.g., Joint Commission or state surveys).
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required, Healthcare Administration, Public Health or a related field.
Work Experience:
- 2+ years in healthcare quality, performance improvement, or clinical roles (acute hospital experience highly valued); prior work with quality data abstraction and regulatory compliance.
Required Skills:
- Strong analytical and data management abilities (e.g., working with databases, Excel, or quality reporting tools).
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations (CMS, TJC, HIPAA).
- Excellent communication, project coordination, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in quality improvement methodologies (e.g., PDCA, Lean, Six Sigma).
