How you will contribute

A Registered Nurse (RN) who excels in this role:

 

  • Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
  • Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
  • Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
  • Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
  • Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
  • Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

 

 The Lactation Consultant will implement the education process to meet identified learning needs. 

Design, maintain and evaluate education programs to facilitate management of specific patient populations. 

Participate in community activities to promote a health and wellness focus. 

Provide expert content knowledge in field of patient education and programs. 

Care Coordination: Participates in multi-disciplinary planning of care. 

Provides consultation in complex breast feeding situations. 

Coordinates availability of educational resources. 

Serves as a link to community resources. 

Participates in the monitoring of patient/neonatal outcomes.

Leadership: Role model positive leadership behaviors. 

Provide consultation on patient care management and education resources. 

Support staff in the management of complex patient teaching.

 Collaborate in identifying opportunities to improve education activities. 

Participates in the monitoring of patient/neonatal outcomes.  

Patient Education: Provides input to the RN for establishing a teaching plan. Provides education to the patient / significant others, health care providers and community at large.

 Documents patient understanding of education provided. Provides feedback on effectiveness of the education. 


 

What we are looking for

Education: 

Nursing Diploma Required Bachelor's Degree Preferred 

  • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in mother/baby care or breast feeding education Required 
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current IBCLC certification or certificate in lactation education or counseling Required 
  • Current RN licensure in appropriate state required 
  • Additional Skills Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Excellent customer service skills.
