Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months -Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) within 6 months. *If past due or expired will have 60 days to bring up to date.

Required Licenses

RN Circulator

Positions patients safely, maintains correct anatomical alignment, pads and protects bony prominences

Correctly performs skin preps for all procedures accessing for allergies prior to prep and following safety guidelines

Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during all procedures.

Observes and monitors sterile field for breaks in surgical asepsis. Checks package integrity, expiration dates, and chemical indicator when opening sterile items on to the sterile field.

Demonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning of OR suites before and between procedures based on patient's infection class. Assists in terminal cleaning at end of day. Restocks supplies when necessary and organizes effectively for end-of-case clean up.

Assists anesthesia during induction and emergence remaining at the patients side.

Demonstrates through knowledge of the inherent risks associated with the use of Electrosurgery units. Practices ESU safety precautions to minimize risk to the patients.

Ensures Pre-op Checklist is complete (H&P present, informed consent signed, verification of operative site, patient allergies, NPO status and all pertinent test results and x-rays present) before patient is taken into surgical suite.

Consistently introduces self and uses two identifiers prior to interviewing patient for surgery.

Confirms correct surgery and site with patient and/ or family. Ensures that surgical site is marked and documents as per hospital policy.

Performs "Time out" ensuring correct surgery, correct patient, correct site and side including surgeon, anesthesia and all involved parties as per hospital policy.

Appropriately responds to the patient in an emergency or physically distressful situation.

Performs and documents counts of needles, sponges, instruments and other countable items as per hospital policy. Effectively communicates counts with the physician and adheres to policy for incorrect counts.

Accurately records, handles and labels all specimens according to hospital policy. Demonstrates care of specimens in a manner that minimizes the potential for any errors or specimen mix-up.

Takes appropriate measures to maintain thermoregulation in the pediatric to geriatric operative patient. Understands the issues and risk regarding thermoregulation in the per-operative setting.

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with team members, all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and other contacts. Must possess the ability to effectively function in a stressful environment. Must possess the ability to use the following equipment; Telephone/Overhead Paging System/Fax Machine/Calculator/Computer. As pertinent to the position, must be able to use computer, telephone, calculator and adapt to new technology as it becomes available and necessary for the job. Must have a positive attitude, even temperament in stress/conflict situations.
