More about our team

The Post-Partum unit at Wilson Medical Center provides comprehensive care to mothers and newborns following delivery. Our team supports recovery, education, and family-centered care while collaborating closely with Labor & Delivery, Nursery, and interdisciplinary partners. Nurses in this department play a key role in postpartum assessments, newborn care, patient education, and ensuring a safe transition home for more than 800 families annually.

 

How you'll contribute

A Registered Nurse (RN) who excels in this role:

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that prioritizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical errors
  • Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
  • Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
  • Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, provider, patient, and family
  • Formulates individualized plans of care and revises them based on patient response
  • Completes and updates the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
  • Evaluates learning needs of patients and families and provides education appropriate to age, culture, and condition
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharge planning, referrals, and psychosocial support
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well‑being of patients while protecting patient rights
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment

What we're looking for

A compassionate nurse with strong clinical judgment, critical thinking skills, and the ability to provide safe, patient‑centered postpartum care.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Current RN license to practice in the state of NC
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire
  • ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire
  • One year of experience preferred
