Essential Functions

Has administrative responsibility for nursing standards and practice regardless of the nurse's practice area or reporting relationship. Directs hospital nursing activities within the context of hospital policies and procedures. This position is accountable for the operations of the inpatient and out-patient nursing units and other defined ancillary departments and is responsible for the quality assessment, implementation, coordination and evaluation and standardization of system wide inpatient care. May serve as department leader during times of vacancies, vacations, and medical leave. May fill in as house supervisor during times of need. Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.

  • Ensures continuous and timely nursing services to patients.
  • Ensures nursing standards, practices, policies, and procedures, in accordance with all applicable laws, regulatory and accreditation requirements are consistent with current research findings and national professional standards.
  • Directs nursing service Performance Improvement activities.
  • Sustain regulatory compliance/survey readiness CMS/TJC/DOH
  • Actively participates in hospital leadership functions.
  • Collaborates with hospital leaders to design and provide patient care and services, including availability of sufficient, qualified nursing staff.
  • Requires a high level of critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast paced, stressful environment, evaluate situations and take appropriate action.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Applicants should have a current state RN license
  • Master Of Nursing in Science
  • 3-5 years' experience directing a clinical nursing department(s) as a nursing director ie. (Med/Surg, ED, ICU, Surgery) with strong operations background
