Schedule: Varied 7-3, 9-5, 11-7, 1-9, 3-11, weekends and on call.

How you'll contribute

A Surgical Tech who excels in this role will:

  • Provides care to all patients from infancy through geriatrics.
  • Functions in a 1st or 2nd scrub role, or as a Circulating Assistant
  • Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures andimplementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance ofinvasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Routinely provides "on call" and weekend coverage to insure timely service to allpatients and customers.
  • Participates in the development of a care plan for every surgical patient.
  • Possesses knowledge and demonstrates the proper use, care and handling of all equipment, instruments and supplies.
  • Participates in surgical time-out and actively supports all patient safety initiatives.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and/or employee information.
  • Reviews and revises surgeon preference cards, OR policies and procedures and jobdescriptions annually and as needed (with Conemaugh Connect system).
  • Participates in teaching students, orientation of new personnel and providing continuing education for OR staff.
  • Attends, participates and completes all required meetings, in-services and educational programs annually.
  • Participates in committees and special assignments when needed.
  • Supports hospital and Operating Room strategic plan each fiscal year.
  • Supports and follows AORN/AAMI Standards and Recommended Practices.
  • Commits to service excellence. Continually strives toward achievement of the CARING values and creating the Ideal Patient Experience.
  • Assists with inventory reduction & maintenance.
  • Maintains National Certification and proof of 30 hrs. of relevant continuing education every 2 years, OR if Certification is with NCCT; annual recertification.
  • Maintains CPR certification.

What we're looking for

  • Graduate of a school for surgical technology and maintains ST certification.

  • National Certification (NBSTA) OR (NCCT) is required upon date of hire.

  • Ability to meet age/developmental-specific needs for every patient.

  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills within the peri-operative setting.

  • Ability to perform the role of CST in all surgical procedures.

  • Demonstrates responsible behavior as a health care professional.

  • Employed in a 1st and 2nd scrub role on or before 12/29/20 OR employed at another healthcare facility in the 2 years prior to 12/29/20 is preferred.
