How you'll contribute 

Surgical Technician who excels in this role: 

  • Is responsible for preparing the operating room, setting up sterile instruments and supplies, scrubbing on cases, maintaining the sterile field, and performing appropriate functions to facilitate the safe and efficient flow of surgical patients.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures, ensuring instruments, supplies, and equipment are readily available.
  • Performs and participates in accurate instrument, sponge, and sharps counts in accordance with patient safety standards.
  • Handles and labels specimens properly according to policy and protocol.
  • Works under the guidance of the Registered Nurse and collaborates effectively with the circulating nurse, anesthesia providers, physicians, and other hospital departments.
  • Shares responsibility for the care, safety, and well-being of patients throughout the perioperative process, responding appropriately in urgent or emergent situations.

What we're looking for  

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional requirements include: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited surgical technology program preferred. Current BLS certification and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in a surgical or healthcare facility preferred, with demonstrated knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, aseptic practices, and maintenance of the sterile field.
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention, patient safety standards, instrument/sponge/sharps count, and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and the healthcare team, using sound judgment to process information, prioritize tasks, and respond appropriately in routine and emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, focused, organized, and adaptable in high-stress or fast-paced surgical environments, including managing case setup, turnover, and intraoperative needs.
  • Strong manual dexterity and fine motor skills, including the ability to distinguish colors and visualize small details (as small as 1 mm), while maintaining precision and attention to detail.
  • Physical capability to lift and move at least 50 pounds; stand or walk for extended periods; safely operate equipment and transport supplies; and demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and flexibility to meet surgical scheduling and on-call requirements.
