The Telecommunications Department at Haywood Regional Medical Center plays a vital role in hospital communications by professionally managing all incoming and internal calls, overhead paging, and emergency code alerts. Our operators serve as the communication hub of the facility, ensuring timely and accurate information flow across departments 24/7. We are dedicated to providing clear, calm, and efficient service to support patient care and hospital operations. 

 

How you'll contribute  

A Switchboard Operator who excels in this role: 

  • Direct all telephone inquiries to the appropriate area or person while maintaining strict confidentiality for patient information.
  • Make announcements, such as drills, disasters, and paging of authorized personnel, and relay messages accurately.
  • Monitor emergency alarms and notify responsible parties when required.
  • Operate a variety of communication equipment, including radio consoles, telephones, and computer systems.
  • Maintain accurate logs of calls, messages, and emergency incidents for documentation and reporting purposes.
  • Prioritize and respond to multiple incoming calls and emergencies simultaneously.
  • Coordinate with hospital staff, emergency responders, and security to ensure timely and effective responses, following established protocols.

What we're looking for  

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience with telecommunications systems and general office practices preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to remain calm, prioritize, and take appropriate action in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to relay messages accurately and coordinate effectively with staff and emergency responders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to maintain accurate logs and documentation.
  • Ability to operate multiple communication systems simultaneously and manage routine and emergency tasks efficiently.
