Job Summary:

Responsible for accessing, abstracting, coding and data entry of cancer patient data. Maintains all cancer registry functions in accordance with American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Guidelines. Conducts follow-up and case-finding as regulated by State agencies. Assists with Tumor Board/Cancer Conference and Cancer Committee

FLSA: Non-exempt

Job Requirements/Education:

  • Associates or Bachelors Degree in a related field, including Health Sciences, Transcription, Medical Coding, etc..
  • At least one year experience in Medical Records or Tumor Registry. 
  • A minimum of 1 year of current cancer data abstraction experiences preferred

 

Required Licenses:

  • Current Oncology Data Specialist certification or board eligibility preferred

 

Required Skills:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Language Skills: Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

 

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

 

Essential Functions

  • Performs case-finding to identify all patients diagnosed and treated for any cancer diagnosis.                                                                                                                   
  • Documents morphology coding of all histologic and maintains suspense file based on newly diagnosed cases from pathology reports.
  • Abstracts and reports cancer patient data to Kentucky Cancer Registry and National Cancer database.
  • Assists with Cancer Conference activities as needed, and Tumor Board agendas. Assists with meeting set-up and facilitation.
  • Conducts cancer patient follow-up in accordance with State and National NCC guidelines.
  • Maintains all cancer registry functions and assists with data request, quality studies and ACOS - Commission on Cancer guidelines for accreditation.

 

Non-Essential Functions:

Review and comply with LifePoint Code of Conduct and all relevant Company and Division policies and procedures.
