At Lifepoint Health, your work matters. Our employees bring compassion and purpose to the care they provide and the communities they serve – and their deep commitment to healthcare deserves recognition. The Lifepoint Health Mercy Award is one important way we intentionally celebrate our people who are living out our mission of making communities healthier® and upholding the values that define our culture.
Established in 2001, the Mercy Award is a treasured Lifepoint tradition created to honor the life and legacy of Scott Mercy, Lifepoint’s founding chairman and CEO. For the past 25 years, this award has recognized individuals at our facilities and the Health Support Center who embody Scott’s caring and compassionate spirit by serving others and advancing our mission in meaningful ways.
Considered the highest honor a Lifepoint employee can receive, the Mercy Award celebrates those who:
- consistently go above and beyond in serving patients, colleagues and the community;
- demonstrate exceptional compassion and commitment;
- respect others in all they do;
- inspire those around them;
- exemplify Lifepoint’s core values both personally and professionally.
The Lifepoint Health Mercy Award recognizes professionals who demonstrate compassion, service and a commitment to improving healthcare in their communities. Mercy Award honorees are extraordinary colleagues who remind us that the work we do matters and that we all have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.
Companywide Mercy Award
Every year, each of our facilities and our Health Support Center solicit nominations, select a local winner and submit that winner for consideration for the companywide Mercy Award recognition. Our current companywide winner is Jackie Mcelyea from Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, North Carolina. You can learn more about Jackie’s incredible story below.
Inspiring Mercy Award honorees, like Jackie, reflect the spirit of the Mercy Award through their compassion, connection and deep commitment to others. Their selflessness and kindness are evident not only in what they do, but in how they lead, creating meaningful moments that influence patients, support colleagues and strengthen the communities they serve.
Why employee recognition matters in healthcare careers

- your impact is seen, valued and celebrated;
- everyday moments of care and connection are recognized;
- team members support one another and lead with heart;
- giving back to the community is part of who we are;
- purpose-driven work creates meaningful, lasting change.
