Your Voice Shapes the Future of Care

Through shared governance – a structured framework that gives clinical staff a direct voice in policies, practice standards and workplace decisions – Lifepoint Health facilities are turning frontline insight into meaningful change. Below, we explore how shared governance works, where it’s being implemented and what it means for clinical care teams building their careers at Lifepoint.

At Lifepoint Health, your voice can help shape the future of care. We believe the people closest to patients are often best positioned to identify opportunities, remove barriers and strengthen the way care is delivered. That is why listening to our teams is woven into how we operate – and why we continue to build intentional channels for caregivers to share ideas, influence practice and help drive meaningful improvement.

From Feedback to Action: Shared Governance in Clinical Practice

Listening to our people should lead to action. Shared governance is one way many Lifepoint facilities are turning frontline insight into practical improvements.

Shared governance is a structured, evidence-based framework that creates a partnership between clinical staff and organizational leadership. Through defined councils and committees, employees gain a direct avenue to influence policies, practice standards and operational priorities.

Across Lifepoint Health, a growing number of facilities are implementing or expanding shared governance models to strengthen professional voice, support leadership development and ensure that care delivery is guided by the people who know it best. These efforts reflect our broader commitment to engagement, accountability and operational excellence.

When staff can contribute their expertise, organizations are better positions to improve workflow, strengthen practice, support professional growth and deliver safer, more consistent care.

Spotlight: National Park Medical Center

National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas, launched its Shared Governance Committee – a milestone that reflects the facility’s deep commitment to collaborative decision-making and continuous improvement. The committee is powered by unit-based representatives from departments across behavioral health, quality, critical care, medical-surgical, women’s services, surgical services, intensive care, emergency services and more.

As one nursing leader at a facility shared: “Our Shared Governance Committee strengthens our commitment to shared decision-making, professional growth and a unified approach to improving patient care across our hospital.”

Staff understand the day-to-day challenges, workflow barriers and opportunities for improvement because they experience them firsthand. By connecting frontline teams and leadership, the committee creates a meaningful, respectful and action-oriented pathway for improvements.

Spotlight: Sovah Health

At Sovah Health, serving patients in Southern Virginia and Northern North Carolina, shared governance empowers nurses to help shape decisions that impact patient care, professional practice and the future of healthcare delivery. Following a comprehensive assessment, nursing leaders and Professional Practice Council members strengthened the program by redeveloping bylaws, reestablishing councils across the market and creating a standardized application process. These efforts reinforced nurse empowerment, accountability and collaboration while expanding opportunities for frontline team members to influence meaningful change.

Today, shared governance continues to support engagement and excellence across Sovah Health. At Sovah Health – Martinsville, a Care Excellence Unit Group on the Medical-Surgical Unit brings together nurse champions focused on areas such as patient experience, stroke care and fall prevention. By advancing evidence-based practice, supporting nurses to work at the top of their license and ensuring frontline perspectives inform organizational decisions, Sovah Health is strengthening staff engagement and delivering exceptional care for the communities it serves.
