Position Summary

Under minimum supervision, assists the Director of Surgical Services with planning, organizing, delivering, and coordinating patient care in the Operating Room, PACU, SDS department, PAT, and GI departments.Collaborates with the SDS Lead RN, Robotic Coordinator, Lead Scrub Technician, and Sterile Processing Manager to organize and plan direct patient care activity to achieve the highest level of quality/ cost standards.Participates in direct patient care to maintain the clinical expertise and serve as a role model for the team.Assist in the orientation and continuing education of the staff members in the perioperative area by assisting with the implementation of all policies and procedures of the facility.Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.

Reports to: Director of Surgical Services

Responsibilities of the Position

The Surgical Services Assistant Director is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the Operating Room, GI, PACU and SDS departments.The Surgical Services Assistant Director is also responsible to collaborate with the SDS Lead RN, and Sterile Processing Manager to assure successful safe delivery of patient care.

Knowledgeable of all areas in the Surgical Services Department.

Will be responsible for taking a modified patient care assignment and take OR circulator call when needed.

Works in collaboration with Anesthesia with planning and coordinating patient care.

Works cooperatively/ collaboratively with physicians and their practice to effectively manage their surgery schedule, assures the availability of necessary equipment, supplies, instrumentation for their surgeries, and help to resolve concerns collaboratively with the surgeons.

Will be responsible for managing the OR Call Schedule.

Will be responsible for managing the OR Daily Schedule and to use the OR Communication board to maintain communication with the Staff, Surgeons, and Anesthesia.

Participate in various committees, Process Improvement Initiatives, Quality Chart Audits, and Patient Experience Rounding.

Lead Briefs, Debriefs, and Huddles.

Monitors the progress of new employees throughout the orientation phase and assists with adapting the orientation program to meet the individual needs.

Participates in rounding on the staff and conflict resolution among the department.

Follows the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) Guidelines and Hospital Policies and Procedures.

Supports the goals and vision statement of the Hospital and maintains compliance with the standards for service excellence.

Other tasks as assigned by the Director.



Minimum Education

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing as an Associate Degree/Diploma Nurse is required.

Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred

Certifications/Licenses

Current/active license as a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina is required.

Must have a current BLS card, ACLS and PALS certification.

Minimum Work Experience

Two years of RN experience is preferred.
