Position Summary:     

Sovah Danville is seeking a full-time Medical Lab Technician to perform, correlate, interpret, and report routine and special, highly complex laboratory procedures in various sections of the laboratory. 

  • Verifies patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.
  • Performs common testing procedures, and assesses and reports test results.
  • Performs test result calculations as necessary.
  • Performs and reports waived to highly complex laboratory tests on patients in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes abnormal, unusual, or unexpected test results through correlation of data with common physiological conditions/age of the patient.
  • Follows established procedure for reporting critical values; refers unusual or unexpected results to the supervisor.
  • Recognizes the need for and suggests additional laboratory tests for definitive diagnostic information.
  • Consult with the section pathologist as necessary.
  • Operates, calibrates, maintains, and checks the performance of equipment/instruments.
  • Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Performs and records all quality control procedures required for analytical tests, equipment, reagents, media, and products.
  • Evaluate results of quality control and implement and document appropriate corrective action when indicated.
  • Maintains supplies needed for the performance of tests.
  • Prepares and labels reagents/media according to prescribed procedures or from the literature as necessary.
  • Provides bench-level instruction as needed for new or less skilled laboratory personnel.


Minimum Education:
  • Associate's Degree with medical technician training, preferred.
  • 50-week US military medical laboratory training course and a minimum of 2 years experience, acceptable.
Required Skills:
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Typical Physical Demands: These may require extended periods of standing or sitting. Some bending, stooping, or stretching is required. May require lifting and carrying 5-25 pounds. Requires full range of motion including eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges. Requires ability to communicate and interact with others in person and on the phone. Also requires a high degree of mental alertness and the ability to handle a high degree of stress and/or irregular work hours.
Required Certification/License:
  • MLT certification (ASCP), AMT, NCA, or other national certification preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
  • 1 year of medical laboratory experience post-training preferred.
