RN Director, Surgical Services

Position Summary:

Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives. The Director Surgical Services provides overall direction and leadership for the Surgical Services Departments (Pre-Procedure Screening, One Day Surgery, OR, Central Processing and PACU).

·         Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.

·         Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

·         Directs a variety of personnel actions; staff selection (interviewing and hiring), provides orientation, prepares performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.

·         Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.

·         Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

·         Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Graduate of a Program in Nursing required. Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree preferred.

·         Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing or Compact State required

·         Five (5) years’ experience in surgical specialty setting required

·         Three (3) years’ experience as a full-time perioperative supervisory/management role required

·         Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

·         Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

·         Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure appropriateness and continuity of care for the patients of Sovah Health Danville.

·         Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association required

·         Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association preferred
