A Director of Strategy and Special Projects who excels in this role:
Plays a critical role in driving strategic initiatives, managing complex projects, and contributing to the overall success of the enterprise. This position offers an opportunity to leverage consulting experience and strategic acumen to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and evolving environment.
The Director of Strategy and Special Projects is a key role responsible for supporting key initiatives and overall management of the enterprise strategic plan. This position requires a combination of consulting experience, problem solving and critical thinking skills, analytics and financial modelling, and solid business acumen. The ideal candidate will have prior consulting experience, such as a consultant or associate, and a proven track record in program/project management and strategy. This position will report into the Associate Vice President of Strategy & Special Projects and will be responsible for supporting the AVP of Strategy & Special Projects with driving and executing on enterprise strategic plan and core initiatives.
Independently lead cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems, including diagnosing the issue through interviews and analytics, formulating solution sets and recommendations, and developing a roadmap for implementation and supporting execution.
Partner with senior business leaders as a key thought partner and help shape the strategy and vision for their function.
Conduct process analyses of current workflows to identify inefficiencies and alignment with lean principles.
Implement standard operation procedures (SOPs) and best practices across departments based on lean principles.
Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess process improvement success and present them to senior management.
Align with management to integrate lean initiatives in support of hospital objectives and patient needs.
Establish plans to communicate program goals, deliverables, status, and issues to leadership and implementation teams through the engagement process.
Identify key project risks and work with implementation teams and program leadership to appropriately disposition those risks.
Develop thoughtful and insightful financial and business analysis to develop key strategic recommendations.
Collaborate with senior business leaders and program leadership to develop standard reporting metrics and measurements for the ongoing management of each program.
Develop and build financial models for business case recommendations.
Ability to expertly navigate complex relationship environments and build support amongst a cross-functional stakeholder group to drive outcomes and resolve conflicts.Appropriate business acumen and understanding of key financial metrics.
Rigorously manage scope to ensure commitments are achieved within agreed on time, cost, and quality parameters.
This position serves both internal co-workers and extern customers, clients, patients, contractors, and vendors.
Access to and/or works with sensitive and/or confidential information.
Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA) standards.
Skilled in the application of policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.

What we're looking for
An ideal candidate for this position will have critical thinking skills, exercise decisive judgment, and be able to work with minimal supervision.
Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration or a related field is required.
Five years of consulting experience managing fast-paced, complex projects/programs is required, preferably from a top-tier consulting firm.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is required.
Consulting background : experience within a top-tier management consulting firm. Familiarity with consulting framework and methodology, problem solving, and data analysis techniques.
Strategy development : strong understanding of strategic planning principles, including market analysis, competitive positioning, and growth strategies. Ability to translate strategic objectives into actionable plans and drive their execution.
Program management : proven experience in program management, including defining project scope, creating work plans, and leading cross-functional teams to successful project completion.
Analytics and financial acumen : strong analytical mindset with the ability to break down ambiguous problems into key levers, think critically, and develop data-driven recommendations. Proficiency in financial modelling and general business analytics.
Communication & presentation skills : executive-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences including senior leaders of the organization. Proficient in creating compelling presentations and delivering impactful messages.
Healthcare industry knowledge (preferred) : familiarity with the healthcare industry, including provider/health system landscape, regulatory landscape, and key stakeholders, is preferred, but not required.
Strategic Planning : Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute strategic plans that align with the organization's goals and objectives. Conduct research, analyze and diagnose issues, and identify and help execute opportunities for growth and improvement.
Special Projects : Lead and manage special projects that have a strategic impact on the organization. This includes at a broad level, diagnosing the issue, analyzing and building the business case, formulating a recommendation to executive leadership, and executing on the initiative for results.
Enterprise Program Management : Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of key programs and initiatives. Coordinate cross-functional teams, set project goals, establish timelines, and ensure deliverables and outcomes are achieved.
Problem Solving : Utilize strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify and break down complex business challenges, develop data-driven solutions, and implement process improvements. Apply strategic thinking and data-driven insights to drive decision-making and mitigate risks.
Stakeholder Collaboration : Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including executives, department leaders, operations leadership, to gain insights, build trust, and ensure alignment with strategic goals. Act as a trusted advisor, providing guidance and recommendations on strategic initiatives.
Reporting & Analysis : Proficient in analyzing comprehensive reports, dashboards, and performance metrics to draw insights for senior leadership. Conduct analyses, identify trends, and summarize actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.
In hospital environment, may be exposed to hazards and unusual elements, which may include but are not limited to bloodborne pathogens and / or contagious illnesses, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials which may require extensive safety precautions and the use of protective equipment.
