Director of Finance/Controller

Highland Springs is a 72-bed behavioral hospital located in Cleveland, Ohio. The hospital offers inpatient and outpatient mental health and addiction treatment to adults, adolescents and their families. At Highland Springs we are dedicated to Changing People’s Lives®

Highland Springs is seeking a Director of Finance/Controller to join finance team.  The Director of Finance/Controller is responsible for overall financial administration of the Facility, including general accounting, data processing and financial reporting in accordance with all Facility and corporate policies and procedures.  The Controller must possess an understanding of the inner-workings of the business to identify trends and partners with other Facility leaders to mitigate negative trends.  Controller ensures internal controls are adequate to safeguard facility assets and that accounting systems are sufficient to generate accurate and timely financial reports.

  • Monitors the activities of the business office staff (billing, collections, financial counseling, utilization review and data processing) and revenue cycle to ensure patient accounts receivable stay at an acceptable level with continuous focus on improving hospital cash flow (including management of denials).
  • Responsible for closing the financial statements in a timely manner each month.
  • Prepares mid-month and end-of-month projections
  • Prepares Month Operating Reports with accuracy and within established timelines
  • Prepares Annual Operating and Capital Budget
  • Ensures that all payroll activities are completed timely by facility to allow processing by Corporate Payroll Department
  • Monitors and analyzes FTEs to maintain budget requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring AP invoices are received and processed timely in P2P environment as well as ensuring provider payments are processed according to contract
  • Monitors payer mix/UR for appropriateness of treatment.
  • Performs account reconciliations for Accounts Receivable and related Reserves
  • Reviews and ensures Balance Sheets are properly stated in adherence with GAAP and Company Policies
  • Develops plan and works towards strategic goals for continued growth of the Facility.
  • Prepares actual vs. budget monthly reports within assigned timeframes.
  • Maintains sufficient familiarity with data processing systems to identify problems, initiate corrective actions, provide staff training, generates necessary reports.
  • Provide and/or prepare data for state and federal financial reporting including but not limited to Medicare Cost Reports, State Health Reporting

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Experience:

  • Previous experience in healthcare overall financial operations/controls required
  • Experience in payroll also required
  • Knowledge of in-patient psychiatric and chemical dependency hospital finance preferred
