Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination. Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic procedures.

Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.

Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options, and community resources. 

Performs preventative heath assessments, screening, immunizations, and care.

Working according to a varied schedule and in close consultation with attending orthopedic surgeon, physician assistants see preoperative patients, take in-depth patient histories, conduct physical exams, order laboratory tests and data, formulate differential diagnoses, develop plans of care, perform surgical procedures, prescribe medications, and educate patients about treatment options.


Minimum education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program

Required Skills

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire.

Licenses:

Must have all licensure to practice as a physician assistant in the state of New Mexico.
