Bachelor's of Science in Nutrition or Dietetics - Required 

Must be Kentucky State Licensed and Registered with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Five years’ experience or the equivalent in hospital or community nutrition preferred

  • Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical or employment status of patients/families at JPMC.
  • Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.
  • Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action. Must participate in safety instructional programs.
 Maintains effective written and verbal communications and public relations, inter- and intra- departmentally.
  • Coordinates and integrates clinical and administrative aspects of dietetics to provide quality nutritional care. Demonstrates the utilization of human effort and facilitates resources efficiently and effectively,
  • Assess needs of diabetic patients within 48 hours of notification of inpatient admission or during initial outpatient appointment.
  • Collaborates with the patient to develop an individual nutrition plan and mutually accepted goals based on identified needs.
  • Establishes/maintains quality patient care by providing nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy.
  • Provides inpatient “survival skills” training to all patients identified by nursing to have diabetes upon hospital admission.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of assessment, plan, patient instruction, interventions, progress, and behavior change goals.
  • Performs required and appropriate follow-up care: appointments, phone calls, evaluation of behavior-changed goals.
  • Communicates/interacts with members of Health Care Team for better patient care.
  • Assesses patient nutritional status on patients of all ages (neonates, infants, peds, adolescents, geriatric) and of different cultures. Provides counseling to patients (inpatient and outpatient) and/or family members on therapeutic diets as prescribed by a physician.
  • Provides counseling that is appropriate for age level or culture.
  • Provides nutritional recommendations based on assessment of medical record including supplements, nutritional support, and calorie count.
  • Serves as a resource person to medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments and administration.
  • Assumes responsibility for keeping informed of current changes and trends in nutrition/diabetes management.
  • Attends professional nutrition education programs, obtaining 75 continuing education hours every 5 years.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
