Position Summary

  • In addition to performing all duties within the scope of practice of the certification the individual holds (i.e., CST or CSTFA) , the Certified Surgical Technician Service Line Lead monitors the surgical schedule invovling the service line to actively plan ahead for equipment, supplies, or instrumentation needs.  The service line lead works closely with the Charge Nurse, SPD, Materials Management, schedulers, surgeons and vendors to coordinate needs and maintain operations of the service line. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified Surgery Technician required
  • Three years of operating room experience required
  • Certified Surgical First Assist preferred
  • BLS certification hire

  • Essential Job Functional
  • Actively engages and participates in ensuring daily operations continue within the service line to minimize/eliminate delays where possible.
  • Updates and keeps records of surgeon preference cards in collaboration with Charge RN and SPD Supervisor.
  • Communicates instrument issues such as repairs to SPD Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Communicates instrumentation needs with Charge RN, SPD Supervisor and Surgical Services leadership for ordering.
  • Communicates with vendors and Materials Management to obtain quotes for supplies or instrumentation needs of the service line.
  • Communicates and provides feedback to surgeons and OR personnel regarding instrumentation, equipment and suplies needed. Also provides updates and feedbac regarding instrumentation repairs, backorders, and any equipment that may be out for repair.
  • Serves as an expert resource for the service line for other CSTs and OR team members.
  • Provides training to new staff members and provides periodic in-service offerings in collaboration with Charge RN and Surgical Services leadership.
  • Demonstrates professionalism when handling issues that arise and works to actively help identify solutions that will continue operations and provide optimal patient care.
  • Gathers, checks, opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure.
  • Assist OR personnel as needed.
  • Performs all job duties in the CST or CSTFA based on the level of certification and training the service line lead holds.
