Position Overview:

Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives. Coordinates, implements and evaluates the organization's infection prevention and control program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree Nursing (ADN) Required or
  • Associates of Science Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or Medical Laboratory Technician.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Nursing (BSN) Preferred or
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or Medical Laboratory Technician.
  • BLS upon hire.

Licenses:

  • Registered Nurse or MLT/MT (ASCP) or MLT/MT (AMT) or MLT/MT (HEW) or CLT (NCA)
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be
  • able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Working on obtaining CIC (Board Certified in Infection Control) within 3 years of hire date

Required Skills

  • Experience in performance improvement or infection control preferred.
  • Certified Infection Control (CIC) Certification when eligible based on Infection Control experience or within 18 months of hire.

  • Knowledge of various regulatory agencies and their standards, JCAHO, State of Oregon, and CMS, etc.

Essential Job Functional:

  • The infection preventionist will perform the following activities in collaboration with all departments, programs (inpatient and outpatient care locations), and areas involved in infection prevention and control activities:

    • Development and implementation of hospital wide infection surveillance, prevention, and control policies and procedures that adhere to law and regulation and nationally recognized guidelines.
    • Documentation of the infection prevention and control program and its surveillance, prevention and control activities.
    • Competency-based training and education of all hospital staff providing patient care, treatment, or services related to infection prevention and control polices procedures and their application. The prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections and other infectious disease, including auditing staff adherence to infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
    • Communication and collaboration with all components of the hospital staff/providers involved in infection prevention and control activities.
    • Communication and collaboration with the hospital’s quality assessment and performance improvement program to address infection prevention and control issues.
    • Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
