Position Summary:  Examines patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient.

Performs all necessary respiratory procedures using non-invasive methods, e.g. CPAP and BIPAP therapies. Assembles and disassembles, operates and maintains, troubleshoots, cleans, and sets ventilator parameters according to physician's orders and records response to treatments.

Administers nebulizer treatments per physician orders. Educates patients on use of SVNs, inhalers etc. and documents tolerance and understanding of use.

Educate patients/staff on basic respiratory therapy procedures.

Ensures home environment needs are met prior to discharge.

Carefully follow doctors’ instructions and conduct all prescribed therapies accurately and completely.

Participate in the diagnosis and evaluation of patients, recommend treatments, and advise doctors on best practices to control abnormal functions in the patient’s cardiopulmonary systems

Administer blood gas samples and perform basic analysis

Performs 12 lead EKGs per orders.

Document all treatments and report progress to physicians

Educates patient according to needs identified in the assessment; identifies patient and verifies orders before administration of any treatment or respiratory care to patient; explains plan of care to the patient and acknowledges/ documents level of understanding.

Maintain compliance with all laws, policies and procedures of Valley View Medical Center.  

Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
