JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of an RN, assist in assuring optimal patient care.
A Patient Care Technician will provide basic healthcare and support to patients. Patient Care Technicians keepthe patients' rooms clean, sanitize and orderly each day. Patient Care Technicians will regularly visit patients tomonitor their health and vital signs, provide emotional support before and after treatments and assistpatients in completing basic tasks like eating, using the restroom or grooming themselves.
Patient Care Technicians will assist Nurses during treatment and reinforce treatment methods. If the Patient Care Technician notices changes in the patients' health after treatment, they will notify the nurse.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs specific documentation in the patient's records.
Maintains equipment and supplies and participates in quality assurance.
Communicates appropriate information intradepartmental and interdepartmentally.
Attaining and documenting patients' vital signs
Proper collection and transportation of lab specimens
Obtaining EKG's and placing in chart and/or delivering to appropriate staff
Providing compassionate care by listening to patient's concerns and guiding them by answering any questions or concerns including dressing changes
Monitoring patients' conditions and providing updates to the healthcare team
Turning, repositioning and moving patients between beds, wheelchairs, and seats
Helping patients with activities of daily living (ADL)
Monitoring patients' food and liquid intake
Escorting patients to get X-rays and other diagnostic tests
Assisting with range of motion
Providing skin care and reporting changes in skin integrity
Removal of peripheral IV
Prioritizing patient care
Respond to changes in health alterations and notify the appropriate personnel
Documenting in the electronic health record
Assists and participates in staff education and pursues continuing education for personal development
Removal of Indwelling Urinary Catheters
Perform and document capillary Blood Glucose Checks and report any results that are not within normal limits
Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Required Skills
Required critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Basic Life support (BLS) - to be obtained within 30 days
Required Licenses
National Healthcare Association Patient Care Technician Certification required
