Salary Range: $17.50 - $28.75 an hour.

 

Job Description

The Phlebotomist serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood and other specimens from patients. The Phlebotomist prepares

specimens for laboratory testing and performs screening procedures. Additionally, the Phlebotomist is responsible for ensuring proper tracking and

transport of all specimens. The Phlebotomist is expected to demonstrate error free work and knowledge of standard procedures, techniques and

common practices.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Prior Phlebotomy experience preferred.

License: Phlebotomy certification.

Additional Requirements: CPR and CPI certified within 30 days of employment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs blood collection procedures and related tasks;

Verifies specimen order requests and identifying information prior to specimen collection;

Labels all specimens collected and delivers/transports them to the appropriate processing area;

Follows venipuncture procedures and displays knowledge of standard procedures, techniques and common practice areas;

Greets patients warmly and professionally at all times of interaction;

Communicates essential information to appropriate personnel;

Enhances and promotes an effective communication flow both in and out of the department;

Follows all documentation requirements and properly organizes documentation and information as needed;

Maintains organization and cleanliness of lab.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS

1. Ability to sit and stand and walk for long periods of time.

2. Ability to reach above, or below waist height, kneel, bend, stoop, turn, and twist (occasionally to frequently).

3. Visual ability to read charts, treatment plans, computer screen and typewritten materials.

4. Ability to frequently lift and carry 10 lbs.; occasionally 20 to 50 lbs.

5. Ability to work in an environment where chemicals are frequently used for cleaning, where medical and electrical hazards may occasionally be present and where dust, mist and steam are frequently generated in housekeeping tasks.

6. Ability to work at a rapid pace and perform a variety of repetitive duties.

7. Ability to respond to exposure to blood and body fluids.
