Position Summary:

Assists physicians with the necessary services needed to care for their patients within the MA scope of practice. Supports staff with routine duties and patient care services. Functions in front and back offices or specializes in certain specific responsibilities.

May also perform the following duties:

  • Prepares patient's chart and determines completeness. Adds information, dictation, and test results as needed.
  • Utilizes the computer system to print letters, forms, and requests for tests.
  • Coordinates efforts with receptionist about patient pre-certification for services from third party payers.
  • Logs patient results as required and tracks patient progress.
  • Cleans and sterilizes office equipment as needed and prepares instruments for autoclave, as necessary. Sets up examination rooms and procedure rooms for proper patient care and delivery of services.
  • Chaperones and assists physicians with patients as appropriate or needed.
  • Performs procedures, tests and specimen collection as directed by physician and within the MAs scope of practice.
  • Stocks and restocks examination rooms and office lab with needed supplies and medications. Orders and inventories supplies as required.
  • Completes a thorough and effective pre-examination interview with patients. Reports to physician or Registered Nurse.
  • Maintains proper communication with patients concerning any follow-up care or information. Prepares all lab specimens for proper testing.
  • Communicates with pharmacists as needed to convey patient prescription information. Assists in the effective and efficient operation of medical practice.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected. Releases information in accordance with established policies.
  • Does not have unauthorized overtime, arrives on time, leaves on time, and has few unscheduled absences. Respects diversity of everyone (patients, visitors, vendors, co-workers).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required.
  • Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire. There is a 60-day window to renew expired BLS certifications.
