Position Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician provides supportive pharmaceutical tasks for the Pharmacy Department. These tasks include:

  • Maintaining an optimal level of pharmaceutical inventory through application of effective purchasing procedures with the appropriate contract vendors
  • Developing and maintaining external contacts which include medical service representatives from pharmaceutical companies, medical supply companies, professional peers from other hospitals, local retail pharmacy outlets, customer service representatives from pharmacy computer vendors and automated dispensing cabinet support departments, and state and federal certification inspectors
  • Handling medications in an effective and timely manner
  • Assuring appropriate storage and accurate delivery of needed medications
  • Displaying comprehensive knowledge of, and, conforming to, hospital and department policies and procedures as well as state, federal and the Joint Commission pharmacy regulations and standards
  • Working to optimize medication-related quality in the hospital
  • Maintaining required compliance documentation
  • Promoting positive customer relations and actively contributing to a supportive and cooperative work environment
  • Protecting the health and safety of patients and staff by proper handling of chemicals and drugs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire.
  • Licenses: Utah Pharmacy Tech
