Administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, under the supervision of a physician and by prescription.  Applies the cardiopulmonary process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.  Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.  Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes. 

Essential Functions 

Working with a variety of patients, from neonatal to geriatric

Consulting with physicians and other healthcare professionals

Performs routine Respiratory care

Establishes treatment plans, operating medical equipment.

Administering medication and treatments

Record patients medical histories and symptoms

Set up plans for patients care or contribute to existing plans

Observe patients and record observation

Knowledge of medical equipment used in the care of the patient

Teach patients and their families how to manage illnesses or injuries

Explain what to do at home after treatment

Performs Electrocardiograms, Holter Monitoring and Scanning, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, attends all C-sections and high risk deliveries of newborns, Arterial Blood Gas sticks, Capillary sticks, Analyzation of Arterial Blood Gases, Cord Blood Gases, Capillary Blood Gases and Carboxyhemoglobin. Maintenance and trouble shooting of the Arterial Blood Gas Analyzer, Pulmonary Function Studies, Electroencephalograms, Stress Testing and Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Full-time employees are required to take a weekend call once every six weeks and in the Cardiopulmonary Directors absence.

PRN employees will be ask to take call periodically and work one holiday annual

Maintain work areas in a clean organized and well supplied manner

Able to perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Education
Equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or successful completion of AARC approved Certification Program.

Required Skills
Standard patient care equipment, computer documentation and Cardiopulmonary Equipment for services provided. The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently and to be flexible in applying basic respiratory knowledge to a variety of settings.
Certifications:
Will either possess upon hire or acquire within 90 days of employment:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP)

Licenses: State of TN, RRT or CRT (ABG Endorsed)
