Position Summary:

Essential Funtions:

  1. Responsible, able to work without supervision, dependable, exceptional patient care skills, good people skills.
  2. Implements, recommends, delegates and coordinates the polysomnography testing of patients requring sleep studies.
  3. Provides for continuity of care of patients by maintaining accurate patient records.
  4. Administers and evaluates therapy ordered by the physician.
  5. Uses and supervises the use of patient care equipment.
  6. Assists physician with therapeutic/equipment choices.
  7. Delivers individualized instructions to patient and family members regarding patient's care and in care following discharge.
  8. Follows and enforces recommended safety policies and procedures and infection control policies and procedures, in order to maintain a safe patient and employee environment.
  9. Recognizes emergency situations and responds appropriately.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned by the Leader of Cardiopulmonary.

Education: Formal education in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Science with an Associates Degree or Certificate of Completion is required with concentration in Polysomnography.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) successful year as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, with proven skills in performing respiratory care in a hospital environment, including arterial blood gas puncture and analysis, aerosol and oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation and proved skills in Polysomnography.
 
Special Qualifications: RRT Credentials required (NBRC). State license from the Virginia State Board of Medicine required with credentialing in Sleep Medicine. Current BLS certification, ACLS desirable.
