Position Summary

Assists the department director in the day-to-day management of department operations and personnel management. The supervisor must be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and accreditation standards and will maintain the department policies and procedures in support of these standards and other organizational initiatives. Coordinates the Laboratory Quality Control, Proficiency Testing and Inventory programs.

Reports to: Director of Laboratory

 

Responsibilities of the Position

Determines, coordinates and supervises daily staffing assignments and levels.

Provides direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff. Performs or assists with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.

Assesses and ensures quality of services delivered and facilitates staff development programs. Ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.

Performs staff responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels.

Leads the handling and resolution of complex issues and complaints.

Ensures laboratory operates in compliance with all relevant federal, state and local regulations and all company policies and procedures.

Reviews all necessary laboratory documentation to ensure compliance with standards including policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance.

Maintains technical stills within all areas of the laboratory.

Performs quality control for all procedures. Posts, or verifies results on computer and takes action when indicated by the values.

Enters and retrieves data from LIS as necessary.

Maintains inventory as necessary.

Assists director with schedules, interviews and hiring recommendations.

Prepares periodic reports as requested.

Monitors department charges and chargemaster.

Performs others duties as assigned.


Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree required in Laboratory Science or related Field.

 

Certifications/Licenses

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association is required upon hire.

Registry is required by AMT, ASCP, HEW, HHS, or NCA.

 

Minimum Work Experience

3 years of supervisory experience.

3 years of experience as a Medical Technologist.

 

Minimum Work Experience

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
